Iowa Initiatives

Every Child Counts

In May, 2004, CFPC established a new advocacy division for its state work, Every Child Counts. The goal of Every Child Counts is to build a grassroots network of child advocates who can inform and influence Iowa policies.

The legislative priorities for Every Child Counts in 2007 build upon the work in 2006 and focus upon three policy arenas:

1. Early Learning and School Readiness, with emphasis upon quality, affordable early care and education services, high quality preschool programs, and public and private investment partnerships

2. Child Well-Being and Development, with emphasis upon child health care coverage, healthy child development, Early ACCESS, the Family Opportunity Act, and the tobacco tax

3. Child and Family Economic Success, with emphasis upon income tax treatment of families with children, protections against predatory lending, and microenterprise development
